A note from our Sustainability Coordinator
We are proud to be part of the green revolution and continue to witness a real change in people and companies’ attitudes towards Sustainability and Circularity. This is across the board with end clients, contractors and manufacturers all regulating their processes to meet standards and make a profound difference.
At Atex, we make it our mission to align our carbon reduction ambitions with all of our suppliers, workforce, peers and clients. We set tangible targets to reduce our energy, minimise our waste and maximise the life of our products.
Our key sustainable goals involve:
Smart Systems
Our design team strive to deliver innovative future-thinking solutions for each and every project. Workplaces require intelligent lighting-controls to keep staff safe, healthy and comfortable, while simultaneously conserving energy. We deliver automatic sensory illumination, power and air conditioning – ensuring that all of our projects minimise waste and resource output.
Circularity
Circularity always has and continues to be a key priority for us here at Atex, looking at how we can reuse rather than rip out and replace our lighting controls and central battery systems. Working closely with our suppliers and engineers, we ensure that our products deliver material efficiency, designing for adaptation and disassembly, and to preserve the value of materials beyond their initial use. Reporting against circular economy indicators is an increasingly common feature of green building certifications and planning regulations, of which we are proud to be readily equipped for.
Well-being
We commit to the WELL Light concept across all of our products, creating lighting environments that promote visual, mental and biological health. Humans are innately prone to wakefulness during the day and sleepiness at night, stimulated by light exposure. Integrating daylight and electric light to create lighting strategies focused on human health, along with traditional requirements for visual acuity and comfort, can lead to healthier and more productive environments. Understanding user needs in a space is key to creating a healthier space. Environments that take into account these lighting strategies and user needs can contribute to improvement of the overall mood and increase the productivity of employees.
Training
Product training is an essential element of any installation, from the point of view of efficiency, economy and safety. In order to minimise our resources and travel, a key component of our work encourages clients’ to be equipped with ongoing safety and management of our solutions. We provide training on all systems, customised to specific developments or buildings.
Safe Waste Disposal
Atex is committed to meeting the requirements of the European Union (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Regulations 2014. These Regulations require producers of electrical and electronic equipment to finance the takeback of WEEE resulting from products that we place on the Irish market. This helps us to ensure that WEEE is reused or recycled safely. In line with that commitment Atex will take back WEEE from our clients. If our clients choose not to return WEEE to us then those items should not dispose of in their bin. The crossed out wheeled-bin symbol on the product reminds users not to dispose WEEE in the bin. WEEE contains hazardous substances and if not managed and treated safely it can cause pollution and damage human health.
Reducing our Carbon Footprint
We are a global business, working with international clients and suppliers to deliver future thinking solutions. Our specialised products and services require experts manufacturing in LED lighting, Luminares and DALI-lighting, and in aligning ourselves with our specialist suppliers, we ensure that all workforce practices are ethical and sustainable in nature. Our international freight management strives to minimise our carbon footprint, delivering with zero waste and in proportionate timing.
Aligning with Best-in-Class Practices
We are proud to align ourselves with BREEAM standards, allowing us to measure our sustainability assessment method across all of our projects. BREEAM inspires developers and creators to improve, innovate and make effective use of resources.
At Atex we are always adapting and evolving our practices to think greener, work safely, and improve the wellbeing of staff and end clients. We will continue to grow, learn and shape our services for the benefit of the planet.
